Any Thai bank must keep financial records and general customer data for over a 10-year span in case it is required for any important investigation according to the law. This implies that any bank, including our customer, one of the leading banks in Thailand, must keep a record of an extremely massive amount of data which is not feasible to record all of the data into a database as to how data are usually stored for later use. Conventionally, our customer chose to back up these data into tapes which reduce the cost significantly; however, this restricts any usage or data search as they need to be restored to their original format back in a usable database, which requires professional service and can take a significantly long time. Additionally, this requires database maintenance for up to 10 years on a proprietary database, in which the bank cannot cancel or change the brand of the database used for the archiving.
